Devdutt Padikkal, representing Karnataka in domestic cricket, is among India's talented cricketers. To date, he has played only 2 T20 and 2 Test matches for India, without an ODI debut. In 2021, he had his first opportunity to play for Team India at the international level, debuting against Sri Lanka and playing two matches, scoring just 30 runs.

Padikkal was unable to rejoin the team in this format. Last year, in 2024, he made his Test debut in the series against England, scoring 65 runs in one innings. Subsequently, he was dropped from the team. He was given a chance in the Perth Test during the Australia tour, where he was dismissed without scoring in the first innings. However, he contributed a crucial 25 runs in the second innings. Despite this, he was dropped in the next match and did not play in four matches.

Despite these setbacks, Padikkal remained determined. Upon returning from Australia, he rejoined his domestic team Karnataka and competed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, playing a brilliant innings of 86 runs in the first semi-final to help reach the final.
