Kerala: An 18-year-old athlete from Pathanamthitta, Kerala, claims that over 60 people raped her over the past six years, with multiple instances of gang rape. Additionally, one of the arrested individuals blackmailed her after recording a video, which he used to coerce her. The police have now arrested 28 people in connection with this case.

The Kerala Police arrested 14 suspects on Sunday, after which their statements were recorded. Based on the athlete's testimony, the police have arrested 28 individuals so far. In addition to the 5 FIRs previously filed on Sunday, 13 more FIRs were registered. These include 9 cases at the Elavumthitta police station and 4 at the Pathanamthitta police station.

The police stated that most of Sunday's arrests were linked to the case filed on Saturday. No arrests have been made yet in the 9 cases registered in Elavumthitta, Pathanamthitta district. Pathanamthitta SP VG Vinod Kumar mentioned that a 25-member police team will handle the investigation, supervised by South Zone DIG Ajita Begum Sultan.

Blackmail through video

One of the suspects arrested on Saturday blackmailed the 18-year-old athlete using a video. He recorded the video during a physical encounter when she was just 13 years old, using it to blackmail her. Several of his friends also sexually assaulted her.

The girl was beaten up

According to the police, in a case registered at the Pathanamthitta police station, another suspect befriended the girl on social media while she was in class 12. He allegedly took her to a rubber plantation, where he and five friends assaulted her in a car. It was reported that in February 2023, he picked her up from the bus stand in a car, accompanied by two friends, while three others followed in an autorickshaw.

Sexual assault in the shop

In a separate incident, she was allegedly gang-raped by four individuals near the Government General Hospital in Pathanamthitta in January last year. In another case, two suspects allegedly assaulted her inside a closed shop before leaving her near her home.
