Uttarakhand: The government has intensified efforts against illegally operating madrasas in Uttarakhand. The administration has taken action against them, revealing not just 30-40 but over 200 illegal madrasas. Recently, the government issued directives to identify unregistered madrasas across the state.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami recently called for an investigation into all illegally operating madrasas in the state. Consequently, the district administration and police have acted against these institutions, identifying the unregistered ones and probing their sources of funding.
Illegal madrasas in the district
Reports indicate that these illegal madrasas are located in three districts of Uttarakhand: Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, and Nainital. Udham Singh Nagar has the highest number, with 129 unregistered madrasas. Dehradun has 57, and Nainital has 26 unregistered madrasas. A district-level committee has been established to investigate these institutions.
Team formed
A committee comprising the SSP, SP, and several senior police officers has been formed under the District Magistrates' leadership to oversee the madrasa investigations. This committee will submit a report to state officials within a month. SSP Manikant Mishra of Udham Singh Nagar stated that both Barelvi and Deobandi madrasas have been identified as unregistered and non-compliant with norms.
This is how they are identified
He also mentioned that teams are dispatched to suspicious locations to investigate the madrasas. Efforts are being made to trace the funding sources of these illegal madrasas. Additionally, information is being gathered about students from other states attending these institutions.
