The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard the petition seeking the cancellation of the BPSC 70th exam. The court declined to hear the case and suggested that the petitioner approach the Patna High Court. The petition also called for action against the SP and DM of Patna.

The Supreme Court has declined to consider the petition requesting the annulment of the BPSC 70th Civil Services Preliminary Examination. The petition alleged that there was rigging in the exam, warranting its cancellation and a re-examination. During the hearing, a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice KV Vishwanathan advised the petitioner to initially approach the Patna High Court with his grievances.
The CJI stated, 'We acknowledge your sentiments, but we cannot act as a prima facie court. We believe it would be suitable for the petitioner to approach the Patna High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution.'
What was in the petition?
The Anand Legal Aid Forum Trust's petition claimed extensive rigging in the BPSC 70th Prelims Examination and called for a CBI investigation led by a retired Supreme Court judge. Additionally, it sought action against the SP and DM of the district accountable for the lathicharge on the protesting students in Patna, Bihar's capital.
What is the protest about?
The BPSC 70th prelims exam took place on December 13, 2024. However, at the Bapu exam center in Patna, candidates caused an uproar due to a reported 45-minute delay in the distribution of exam papers. CCTV footage revealed individuals tearing question papers and taking exam papers from other candidates during the test. Following this, candidates began protesting against the BPSC, calling for the exam to be canceled and a re-examination to be held. In response, the Bihar Police allegedly used force to manage the protesters.
