The government is going to take a big step towards controlling cyber crimes. The government has decided to blacklist those who buy SIM cards in other people's names or send fraudulent messages.

Government is preparing a list :
In response to the rising incidents of cyber fraud in the country, the government is planning a significant measure. It intends to blacklist individuals who purchase SIM cards under someone else's name or send fraudulent messages, labeling them as a cyber security threat. Additionally, these individuals may be prohibited from obtaining a new connection for three years. This could be a major move in curbing cyber crime.
Government preparing to take action
A report by CNBC-Awaaz states that the government's telecom department has begun compiling a blacklist. This list will feature individuals who purchase SIM cards under other people's names or send fraudulent messages. Those whose names are on this blacklist will have their current SIM cards blocked and will be prohibited from purchasing new SIM cards for a duration ranging from 6 months to 3 years.
A notice will be issued and a reply will be sought
Prior to adding a name to the blacklist, the government will notify the individual involved and request a response. They will have 7 days to reply. However, in consideration of broader public interest, an individual can be placed on the blacklist without prior notice.
Steps being taken continuously to control cyber crime
The government is consistently implementing measures to combat cyber crime. Recently, telecom companies were directed to use caller-tunes with information on preventing cyber crime to raise awareness. This initiative will last for three months. Additionally, the government informed Parliament that it has 'blocked' 669,000 SIM cards and 132,000 IMEI numbers as of November 15, 2024, in an effort to curb cyber crimes.
