Criminals are tricking people by sending them emails containing a counterfeit court order. These emails falsely claim that a court order has been issued regarding your internet usage. You are not alone in this. The government has labeled it as fraud and has advised everyone to remain vigilant.
Government warned
The government's official PIB Fact Check account has released a warning on X (previously known as Twitter). The email in question purports to be from the Indian Intelligence Bureau, accusing users of engaging in inappropriate online activities and threatening legal action. However, it is entirely false and should not be trusted.
What is claimed in the email?
This fraudulent email claims that the Indian Intelligence Bureau has flagged your Internet activities and that a court order has been issued against you. It accuses you of using the Internet to view pornography. The email also mentions that the Intelligence Bureau, in partnership with the Cyber Crime Police Unit, observes such activities using advanced forensic tools. The email concludes with a signature from an individual identifying as "Prosecutor" Prashant Gautam.
Ignore the email
The government has stated that this email is entirely fraudulent and designed to intimidate or deceive individuals. Legal notifications are never issued via such unauthorized emails; they are always part of the official procedure.
