Sydney Test : The fifth and final match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). This match, referred to as the 'Pink Test', was played in honor of the late wife of Australian legend Glenn McGrath. In her memory, Australia holds the first Test each year as a 'Pink Test'. It has now been disclosed that over 9 million dollars were raised from the Sydney Test.
More than 9 million dollars raised from Sydney Test
The Sydney Test match between India and Australia began on January 3. The outcome of the match was decided by the third day. A significant crowd attended this test, resulting in substantial revenue for the Sydney Cricket Ground. Reports indicate that over 9 million dollars (equivalent to Rs 47,89,09,710 in Indian currency) were generated from the Pink Test. However, this revenue did not go to the stadium's account.
All the money received by the McGrath Foundation
Glenn McGrath, a legendary Australian player, co-founded the McGrath Foundation with his wife Jane McGrath in 2005. After Jane passed away from breast cancer in 2008, the Australian team has annually dedicated the first Test match to her memory since 2009. Proceeds from this event support the McGrath Foundation, which aids breast cancer patients in Australia.
Australia won the Sydney Test
The Australian team outperformed Team India in the Pink Test held in Sydney. Australia secured victory in the second session of the third day. Team India, batting first, scored 185 runs. In reply, Australia was also dismissed for a low score, making 181 runs in their first innings. India's second innings concluded with 157 runs. With a four-run lead from the first innings, India set a target of 162 runs for Australia to win. Australia chased down this target comfortably, winning the match by 6 wickets.
